About Ms. Desai and Mrs. Hoossainy

Welcome to Second grade! My name is Poonam Desai, your child's teacher! This year I have the privilege of co-teaching with a wonderful special education teacher, Mrs. Fazeela Hoossainy! We are so excited to work with your children this year in class!  I know it is going to be a wonderful year of learning!

Here is a little bit about Miss Desai...

I am a graduate from Wayne State University and am certified in Elementary Education with a focus in integrated sciences. I am currently in the process of getting my masters from the University of Georgia in Reading Education. Last year, I completed my first formal year of teaching at Sedalia Park Elementary School and cant wait to start my second at this amazing school!

My passion for working with children began at a young age, I was always playing school with my siblings, being my teacher’s litter helper and babysitting family members. I have worked as a swim instructor, dance teacher, substitute teacher, and the life changing experience of a camp counselor at Point O’ Pines Girls Camp, where I was awarded counselor of the week. I am a compassionate, dedicated, and energetic young woman who believes a teacher can make a student’s challenges their passion and their weaknesses their new strengths.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my parents and two sisters, as well as my very large extended family. I have a great passion for dance, I am a Bharat Natyam (classical Indian dance) graduate as well as the co-founder of Wayne State University’s competitive Bollywood team. I strive to be the best I can be at any and all opportunities offered to me. I like to take on a challenge and prove to myself that anything is possible for "impossible itself spells I M (am) possible."

I am very excited to have your child in my class this year! We are going to have a fabulous, fun and learning-fulled year!

About Mrs. Hoossainy…

I am originally from Guyana, South America and have been a teacher for 24 years.  I am married and have three grown children who all attended Sedalia Park.  I feel that I’ve always had a positive connection with Sedalia Park, either as a volunteer, serving on the PTA, or being a teacher.  I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from the University of Guyana, and a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Georgia State University.  I love working with the staff and students of this school, and look forward to an exciting year of helping your children grow and achieve success.
